The story
Kaufmann's Restaurant am Schlosspark, at Schloßplatz 11 in Gersfeld, serves seasonal, International cooking and earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026 for good quality at good value. The restaurant occupies the former rooms of the castle brewery in Gersfeld (Rhön).
Michael Kaufmann is the owner and head chef, and the family runs the front of house alongside the kitchen. The cooking is a rustic but refined country kitchen, with a short menu that changes according to which products the team can source, mostly from the surrounding area.
Venison loin and French cheese are currently on the menu, served à la carte or as a four-course menu. Wiener schnitzel and fried chicken are also available. Guests can choose a degustation menu of five, six or seven courses, with a vegetarian version, and wine pairings can be added. Ask when reserving whether the tasting menu is offered on your date.
The dining rooms were renovated and modernized starting in summer 2019, and the castle brewery's old walls remain part of the room. The wine list is already extensive and is still growing. Separate spaces seat up to 50 in the restaurant "MK", up to 60 in the Rebsaal, and up to 70 in the beer garden.
