The story
Burgrestaurant, at Rosengasse 32 in Geisenheim, serves a French kitchen inside Burg Schwarzenstein on the Johannisberg heights. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 2,5 Kochlöffel in 2026.
The castle was converted into a summer residence in 1876 by the Mumm von Schwarzenstein family. The Oetker family acquired it in 1958, and Hamburg architect Caesar Pinnau then designed a restaurant inside for tasting Mumm wines alongside selected dishes. The site describes the room as historic and romantic in its elegance.
The restaurant lists its own asparagus menu, separate from the regular card. A candlelit arrangement for two is offered as a romantic evening option. The listed features also include a chef's table, a private room, and vegetarian options, so the French kitchen can be shaped around a small group or a quiet dinner.
