The story
Löwen in Frickingen, at Hauptstraße 41, is a modern regional kitchen that earned the Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, recognized for good quality, good value cooking. The inn has been run by the same family for four generations, and its card draws on produce from the Linzgau region.
Roman Pfaff took over the business after working in Stuttgart, Zermatt and Amsterdam. He cooks with kitchen partner Sabrina Bourjaillat and carries on the line set by his mother Isolde, who turned a simple wine tavern into a destination for serious diners over 35 years. The Schlemmer Atlas gave the house 2,5 Kochlöffel for 2026.
The menu changes often and is built around local producers, with ideas that combine ingredients in unexpected ways. During the spring Sardinian theme week, the card offered porceddu, a roll of suckling pig with broad beans in tomato sugo, fregola with clams, and malloreddus with bottarga. A whole sea bream from the charcoal grill, served with fennel gratin, is made for one or two guests. Seadas, fried ravioli filled with sheep's cheese and lemon, finish with eucalyptus honey.
The dining room has a tiled stove and furniture shaped by the hand of Franz Pfaff, the family's woodworker. In warmer months the garden terrace looks onto greenery. The Sardinian drinks list includes Mirto with the closing course, Argiolas wines from the south of the island, and Ichnusa beer.
