The story
Goldener Hahn is a German restaurant at Bahnhofstr. 3 in Finsterwalde, Brandenburg, and Der Feinschmecker awarded it 3 in its 2026 guide. The Schreiber family runs the house, serving a New Lusatian kitchen built on regional and seasonal ingredients.
Frank Schreiber cooks in the open kitchen, where guests can watch each plate take shape. He draws on the traditional dishes of the Lusatia region and on international experience gained in kitchens abroad. Menus run from three to seven courses, and vegetarian versions are available.
Much of the produce comes from the restaurant's own garden. Kohlrabi and peas accompany a pike-perch fillet with gooseberry, while wild herbs and radishes come with grilled wild prawns and a shellfish miso mayonnaise.
The building opened as an inn in 1862, and the family has owned it since 1939. In the evening the white-laid tables turn the room into a fine dining setting, and Iris Schreiber hosts with warmth and humor. The wine list reaches from the Elbe and Saale-Unstrut regions to the Pfalz, Baden and the Rhône. In summer the courtyard becomes a wine garden, and the Schlemmer Atlas gives the house 3.5 Kochlöffel (2026).
