The story
Posthörnle at Pliensaustraße 56 in Esslingen am Neckar cooks an international kitchen built on seasonal regional produce. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded it two Kochlöffel in 2026 for creative dishes served in a deliberately quiet room.
Heiko Wineberger describes his approach as combining different regional cuisines and recombining them with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Sustainable sourcing matters to him, for the sake of people, the environment and animal welfare. The kitchen has cooked at this level since 2008, and the Michelin Guide lists it as Recommended for 2026.
The restaurant occupies one of the oldest Wirtshäuser in town, within sight of the Pliensauturm. The room is simple and understated, which leaves space for regularly changing art exhibitions. There are 42 seats indoors and 20 on the outdoor terrace, and private dining is available for celebrations. A vegan menu can be arranged on request, and children are welcome if their visit is announced in advance.
