The story
Holzgarten is a wine bar and restaurant at Holzgartenstraße 3 in Erlangen, cooking a seasonal, Mediterranean-leaning menu that earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026. The guide's wording is good quality, good value cooking.
The Schlemmer Atlas awarded Holzgarten 2 Kochlöffel in 2026. It describes soul food in a friendly room with an open kitchen and seats at the counter. The small menu is written on a board, and the guide singles out baked cauliflower and cured salmon. Because the kitchen is open, dogs are asked to stay outside, where a water bowl is set out.
The menu changes through the week. The card from 9 March opens with focaccia from the baker Arnd Erbel, topped with Morcón Ibérico and scamorza. Smoked pea cream with goat's quark and mint sits alongside a Brussels sprout salad with oyster mushrooms and Manchego. Further down come orecchiette with cime di rapa and Thai chili, and octopus carpaccio with smoked pepper aioli. The mains include jumbo mussels in white wine and rabbit saddle involtini with Parma ham and sage. A cheesecake with goat's cream cheese and acacia honey closes the card.
The restaurant is named after its street, which the team calls the smallest in Erlangen, and the outdoor seating sits right on it. The wine list leans Franconian and largely organic, with growers such as Zehnthof Luckert and Paul Weltner. Bottles from the Pfalz and Austria round it out. House wine and organic beer from the Pfister brewery in Weigelshofen come from the tap.
