The story
Restaurant Herrmann's sits at Bitburger Str. 30 in Rittersdorf (Eifel), where Sylvia and Achim Herrmann run a French kitchen inside a 12th-century water castle. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 2 Kochlöffel in 2026, and the four-course menu is the one the guide recommends for a special evening.
The Herrmanns have run the restaurant since 2003. Their kitchen works with local ingredients more than strictly regional recipes, and the menu changes with the seasons. A house specialty is Heidschnucken, the heath sheep from Heidschnuckenhof Schultheis in Usch. Another local product is the Nelchesbirne, a pear that grows only in the Eifel and is distilled into spirits.
Achim Herrmann's recipe for the Rittersdorf-Menü lists beef tatar from Limousin rind with goat's cheese salad, and a braised Heidschnucken leg and shank served with stuffed savoy cabbage and potatoes. Dessert is a crème brûlée over cherry ragout, flambéed with raspberry schnapps. Guests often single out the risotto and the service.
