The story
Jagdhaus Waldfrieden at Kieler Straße 1 in Ellerau is a classic cuisine restaurant inside a private country hotel, and Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 2 Kochlöffel for 2026. The restaurant sits in a villa-style house surrounded by its own park grounds, and the menus change with the seasons.
The kitchen buys regionally and works with small family farms, which it describes as choosing quality over bulk supply. The menu follows the season: a carrot cream soup with roasted hazelnut and orange, pink-roasted wild boar fillet with juniper jus and lingonberry, and Baltic sea salmon served with peas and sugar snap peas. Michelin lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026, a sign that the cooking has caught the attention of inspectors as well as regulars.
The restaurant is set in a villa-style hotel with a fireplace dining room and a conservatory, both of which the Schlemmer Atlas entry singles out. Guests can walk the grounds, which include a small pond. A separate country house, the Landhaus, has stood at the edge of the Rantzauer Forest since 2015, a short walk from the main building. It has an open kitchen, a fireplace, and room for up to eight people, which suits family celebrations.
Dessert follows the same seasonal logic. The menu has an elderflower parfait with citrus and mint, and a white chocolate dish with rhubarb, white chocolate mousse and white chocolate ice cream. For a savory finish, the cheese selection comes from Hof Berg in Ostholstein and is served with Nordstrand rose jam, pumpernickel and grapes.
