The story
Rubens is an Austrian restaurant at Kaiserstraße 5 in Düsseldorf, and Michelin lists it as Recommended for 2026. The Austrian kitchen here draws on Alpine traditions, with a Mediterranean sensibility in some of the cooking.
Ruben Baumgart cooks in the kitchen, bringing experience from Austrian haute cuisine. The house works on a "from nose to tail" principle and processes ingredients with sustainability in mind. Dishes are prepared in either a classic or a modern style, depending on the plate.
The Schlemmer Atlas gives Rubens 2.5 Kochlöffel for 2026 and singles out the crispy veal Wiener schnitzel, the Tafelspitz and a crunchy roasted chicken. Those are the dishes to order if you want the restaurant's core repertoire. The menu also includes a wine list alongside the food.
Rubens also runs private dining and catering for guests who prefer to host at home. The team can plan everything from finger food to a full menu, tailored to the group. The restaurant offers a private room and outdoor seating, and it caters to vegetarian guests.
