The story
Hopmanns Olive at Ziegeleiweg 1 in Erkrath, between Düsseldorf and Wuppertal, serves Mediterranean cooking with regional touches. It appears in the Michelin Guide as a Recommended restaurant for 2026.
The kitchen has run since 2001 and leans on Mediterranean and regional influences. The à la carte menu changes regularly. For a longer meal there is the multi-course Hopmanns menu and a vegetarian version, both served to the whole table at once. Mondays bring a set menu of six small surprise courses for 59 €. The Schlemmer Atlas gave the restaurant 3 Kochlöffel in 2026.
Petra and Ingo Hopmann are the hosts. The restaurant sits beside a historic locomotive shed with a platform hall, and on warm days the green summer garden opens. The shed is also used for larger celebrations, with room for 80 to 180 guests.
Much of the German list comes from Weingut Arndt Köbelin in Eichstetten on the Kaiserstuhl, marked as a house favourite. Mosel and Saar Rieslings from Nik Weis sit alongside it. The Italian pages run from Puglia and Piedmont to Tuscany. For sparkling there is Louis Roederer Collection 245.
