The story
Frau Specht is a Mediterranean restaurant at Hohe Straße 19 in Duisburg, and the Michelin Guide listed it as Recommended in 2026. The address sits behind an unassuming front, so the room is easy to walk past.
Dirk Brendel cooks from a central kitchen in the middle of the room, working with whatever the market offers that day. His dishes sit between German, French and Mediterranean traditions, with the occasional Asian detour. Der Feinschmecker singled out his summer chanterelle bowl with pecorino and a touch of miso, and his veal tongue pâté.
The menu changes with the season. Recent courses have included a Provençal fish stew, marinated kale with porcini, and Wagyu shabu-shabu with dashi. Later dishes have moved to a pike-perch mousse with scampi and lobster foam, and a quail stuffed with autumn truffle. Desserts range from poached figs to a raspberry and paprika sorbet.
Occhio lamps and white-clothed tables set a calm tone. Yvonne Specht runs the front of house, and her service is warm and personal. The wine list is long and leans toward German whites, especially from the Mosel and Mittelrhein, and it also carries a substantial Champagne selection.
