The story
Kastenmeiers is a seafood restaurant at Taschenberg 3 in Dresden, inside the Taschenbergpalais, and Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 2 Kochlöffel in 2026. Gerd Kastenmeier leads the kitchen, and the house has been in the palace since April 2019.
The menu changes every month and pairs noble fish with reworked classics and lighter, often vegetarian plates. Kastenmeier describes the cooking as light, creative gourmet food built on seasonal and regional ingredients. A four-course surprise menu changes daily and costs 79 €. The Mediterranean side of the kitchen shows in plates like grilled pulpo with house-baked corn bread and paprika salsa.
Fine de Claire oysters come by the piece, and caviar is served in Ossietra and Beluga styles with crème fraîche, toast and chopped egg. Lobster appears as risotto, as spaghetti flambéed at the table, or grilled whole with two sides. Among the fish of the day are sea bream, monkfish and turbot. Crêpes Suzette are also finished at the table, and Kaiserschmarrn for two takes about 35 minutes.
Art is part of the room here. The restaurant hosts a new exhibition every two months, and works by Dresden and Saxon painters are for sale. Since 2010 the programme has grown to 100 shows. The 100th, Steffen Schuster's "Zwischenwelten", ran until April 2026.
