The story
Hubertus Stüberl in Brannenburg runs a Bavarian kitchen with a World Cuisine streak, at Schlag 36, 94261 Kirchdorf im Wald. The Schlemmer Atlas gave the village inn 2 Kochlöffel in 2026, recognizing its rustic dining room and hearty regional plates.
Tobias Schönhofer serves venison loin, pikeperch fillet and roast beef in a plain, generous style. The house pours regional beers alongside. The restaurant describes its approach as seasonal Bavarian cooking, with a weekly seasonal menu available on the website.
A 1.5 kg Tomahawk steak from Austrian alpine ox feeds up to four people, with sides, sauces and dips. It needs to be ordered a day ahead and costs 130 €. On Mondays the kitchen offers a three-course menu for 22.50 €. The restaurant also runs a flying salad buffet, where small, seasonally composed salads are brought to the table from 17:30 for 27 € per person.
The main Stüberl seats 45 guests and the Hasenstüberl seats 18. A cozy lounge with a bar and fireplace anchors the inn, and a sunny terrace opens when the weather allows. Family celebrations and private events are also catered.
