The story
Zum Simonbräu in Bitburg is a German kitchen at Am Markt 7, 54634 Bitburg, rated two Kochlöffel in the 2026 Schlemmer Atlas. The house operates as the brewery tavern of the Bitburger Brauerei, close to the town centre, and its menu draws on regional produce with a French streak.
The kitchen describes its cooking as modern regional with French influence, and the Michelin Guide lists the house as Recommended for 2026. Simmental beef appears on several plates, from a tatar of fillet with egg yolk and mustard to a roast beef served with celery, pearl onions and potato fritters. Wild garlic gnocchi arrive with green asparagus and glazed morels.
Flammkuchen is the snack most worth ordering with a glass from the tap. The Alsatian version comes with sour cream, bacon and onion, while the Greek one carries sheep's cheese and peppers. A vegan option is topped with soy cream and seven kinds of vegetables. Bitburger Premium Pils and Eifelbräu Landbier pour from the cask.
The tavern traces back to 1842, when Ludwig Bertrand Simon and his wife Elisabeth set up a brewery tavern in their family home. A 1906 extension was destroyed in 1944, and the tavern reopened in the late 1940s. Rooms are available for private celebrations, and the house also offers guest rooms.
