The story
Lammershof Stuben, at Absteinacher Straße 2 in Birkenau, serves regional country cooking and is listed as Recommended in the MICHELIN Guide 2026. The restaurant sits in a listed half-timbered farm more than 300 years old, beside the pastures where its bison graze.
The kitchen is built around meat from the farm's own herds. The menu offers bison burger, bison goulash and a rump steak from the house butchery. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded 2 Kochlöffel for 2026 and singles out bison bone broth, bison sirloin steak and braised bison breast. Mondays are Bison Burger Day, at €17, with a vegetarian burger at €15.
The Stuben seat 70 at oak tables and benches that the owner designed himself, and much of the cabinetry came from the farm's own woodworking shop. Bleached oak sits against the old architecture. A handmade tiled stove stands at the centre of the room and warms it in winter. The historic wine cellar holds 16 more guests.
The terrace garden rises over three levels and has around 150 seats. From there you look across to the bison and red deer. The farm says no slurry or pesticides are used on its pastures and woods, and the animals stay outdoors all year.
