The story
Marktwirtschaft Besigheim at Marktplatz 2 in Besigheim is a Mediterranean and seasonal kitchen in a half-timbered house on the old town square. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 2 Kochlöffel in 2026, and the Michelin Guide lists it as Recommended for the same year.
Frank Land has run the restaurant since May 2016, and Sebastian Maier joined in 2024 after leading the Herrenküferei in Markgröningen for seven years. The menu follows what is available from the region and in season. Named suppliers include Demeter, Metzgerei Nägele, Metzgerei Herbst and Deutsche See.
The house describes itself as a meeting point between a restaurant and a modern bistro, with historic timber framing alongside contemporary touches. Guests can also come just for a glass of wine or an espresso on the terrace. Across the square, the sister venue Marktkeller Schwäberia opened in December 2019.
The wine list draws on local estates such as Weingut Dautel in Bönnigheim and Weingut Eberhard Klein in Walheim. A weekday lunch runs Monday to Friday from 11:30 to 14:00, with a menu that changes weekly. The house also hosts themed evenings, private events and gift vouchers.
