The story
Orania, at Oranienplatz 17 in Berlin, is a restaurant inside a Kreuzberg boutique hotel, serving Asian-influenced world cuisine and listed as Recommended by the Michelin Guide in 2026.
Chef Philipp Vogel's X-Berg Duck is the dish the house is known for. The bird roasts in a Peking duck oven brought from China, and the crisp skin is carved at the table, then rolled with cucumber and hoisin in thin, freshly baked crêpes. The meal opens with duck dashi, moves to rosy breast with sour-hot pak choi and pepper sauce, and closes with fried rice with pulled leg meat. Der Feinschmecker rated Orania 3 in 2026.
The modern kitchen goes other ways too. Parmesan ravioli and lobster with paprika fumet and fennel both appear in the à la carte repertoire.
Dark wood and red tones dominate the dining room, and the show kitchen is open. The hotel occupies a heritage-listed building from 1912, and live concerts run in the adjoining lounge bar from 9 pm. Jennifer and Philipp Vogel have run the house since it opened in 2017.
The wine list leans toward France, with a sake selection alongside. At the Orania Bar, a color-coded guide sorts the cocktails, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, from fruity to spicy to umami.
