The story

Le Petit Royal, Berlin: French Bistro Cooking on Grolmanstraße

Le Petit Royal is a French restaurant at Grolmanstr. 59 in Berlin, the smaller sibling of the Mitte steakhouse Grill Royal. The Schlemmer Atlas gave it three Kochlöffel in 2026.

Dirk Gieselmann's French classics

Der Feinschmecker (rated 3, 2026) calls Dirk Gieselmann's old-school French dishes unmatched in Berlin. His quail and guinea fowl terrine arrives with fig and port mousse, Sauternes jelly, pistachio and morels. The bouillabaisse follows a recipe from his years in Nice. It holds Mediterranean fish, red prawn, mussels and scallop, with saffron, fennel, rouille and shaved Comté.

Grill, seafood and vegetarian plates

The card opens with Gillardeau N° 3 oysters and a hand-cut beef tartare. From the grill come a Baltic heifer chateaubriand (500 or 1000 grams) and a Norland rib-eye. The sea side offers sole grenobloise and moules frites. Vegetarians can choose truffle risotto with Aquerello rice, or an aubergine pastilla with chanterelles and goat cheese béchamel. For dessert there is La Pêche Haeberlin, a poached white peach with Champagne sabayon and pistachio ice cream, in homage to Paul Haeberlin.

Wine and room

The wine list runs to about 350 bottles from €36, including half bottles, large formats and older vintages such as a 2000 Château Latour. White tablecloths and plush upholstered seating give the room a relaxed, elegant feel, and the bar is set for smaller bites. Ashley Motteroz leads the service team.
