The story
Dae Mon is an Asian fusion restaurant at Monbijouplatz 11 in Berlin, where chefs Samuel Haas and Phillip Steixner build seasonal tasting menus from Korean, Japanese and European influences. The Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 3 Kochlöffel in 2026.
Haas and Steixner lead a young kitchen team from seven nations. The house calls its approach "Open-Minded Cuisine," reworking familiar ingredients through unexpected pairings. Acidity, sweetness and spice anchor most plates. The Michelin Guide lists the restaurant as recommended for 2026, citing the fusion of Japanese and Korean techniques.
Guests choose between a meat and fish menu and a fully vegetarian version, both priced at 138 €. Recent dishes include tuna tartare with sesame and egg yolk, octopus with doubanjiang, potato and bacon, and rice with toffee, shiso and nougat. The Schlemmer Atlas notes that much of the cooking happens on a Binchotan grill.
The open kitchen lets diners watch the chefs at work. The terrace on Monbijouplatz suits a more casual evening with small plates and wine. The tea pairing uses rare teas from farms in Japan, China and India, cold-brewed for 22 hours and served at room temperature. The wine list leans toward German and French producers, and by-the-glass pours are served through a Coravin system.
