The story
Hotel & Spa Fontenay serves French cuisine at Eichwaldstr. 8-12 in Bad Wörishofen, and the Schlemmer Atlas gave it 2,5 Kochlöffel in 2026. The restaurant belongs to a privately run five-star hotel that calls itself "le petit château".
Chef Manfred Hör and his team work in a traditional register. Snails and lobster appear on the menu, and Crêpes Suzette is flambéed at the table. The hotel describes the cooking as familiar dishes handled with a refined lightness. Vegetarians and guests with allergies or dietary needs are also catered for, with dishes composed for them rather than simply subtracted from the main menu.
Lunch and dinner are set out as daily menus. One sample from August 2024 offered cold cucumber soup with smoked salmon and sour cream, and Allgäu veal loin steak with chanterelles in sherry cream. Ammersee zander in caper butter was also on the list, and dinner could close with a cheese trolley. The French kitchen draws clearly on regional produce.
In fine weather the sun terrace and the garden are open for a drink. The garden has a lounge and a spot called Solitude. The Holzbock family runs the house, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026.
