The story
Schwabenstube is a Swabian and international restaurant at Stuttgarter Straße 2 in Asperg, and it holds one Michelin star for high quality cooking (2026). It sits inside the family-run Hotel Adler, where the Ottenbacher family has run the house for generations.
The kitchen stays rooted in Swabian tradition while staying open to outside influences. Guests choose a three- to five-course menu or order from the à la carte selection, and a vegan menu is available. The restaurant occupies a 170-year-old half-timbered house.
Yellowtail mackerel arrives with butternut squash, yuzu and wasabi sorbet, a clear sign of the international side. Sole with parsnip, nut butter, hazelnuts and black truffle, and venison loin with scorzonera and pickled blackberries, show the regional classics. Der Feinschmecker (2026) rates the restaurant 2.5 and describes the cooking as exceptionally crafted.
Restaurant manager Marco Hünicke oversees 300 wines, with twelve offered by the glass. Dark wooden floors, comfortable chairs and light tablecloths make up the room, and the service is friendly.
