The story
La Bécasse, at Hanbrucher Straße 1 in Aachen, is a French restaurant that earned one Michelin star in 2026. The house has been part of the city's dining scene for decades, and its kitchen keeps classic French cooking at the center.
Head chef Andreas Schaffrath has led the kitchen since 2010. His French cooking avoids heaviness, relying on reduction, balance and exact cooking points. Owner Christof Lang has taken on a younger partner, Max Schafirstein, while the restaurant keeps its French classics.
The Feinschmecker guide names a skate salad with fennel, olive oil and Amalfi lemon juice, and an oven-roasted duck with sauces that carry the dish. Dessert is Paris-Brest with nougat ice cream and candied Alba hazelnuts. A sample lunch menu lists oysters, beef tartare, halibut with lavender and champagne, and rib eye with a mustard crust, and it changes often.
The dining room pairs refined elegance with a relaxed feel, and the service is warm and professional. The wine list centers on France's major regions and offers 15 wines by the glass.
