The story
Café Brochier is a bistro and modern cuisine kitchen at 4 place de la Fontaine, Saint-Julien-en-Vercors, in the Villard-de-Lans area. Le Fooding named it Best village café in 2024, and the café has run as a restaurant since its former village grocery was reopened.
Valentine Mollero and Thomas Lecluse run the café, she at the counter and he at the stove. The menu follows the market and leans on zero-kilometer sourcing from Vercors producers. The Michelin Guide gave the cooking a Bib Gourmand in 2026 for good quality, good value.
One Le Fooding lunch began with haricots verts in garlic fromage blanc with an egg yolk. The main was trout from La Truite de la Vernaison, its skin crisp under a fig oil glaze, served with a chard leaf cigar stuffed with Camargue rice.
The dining room has parquet floors and wood panelling, and in warm weather meals move to the flower garden. Three guest rooms sit upstairs, priced from 75 € to 105 €, and can be booked room only, with breakfast, or on a half-board basis.
