The story
Le Chenin is a bistro at 1 place Simone-Veil in Savennières, facing the village church, and the Michelin Guide lists it as Recommended for 2026. Arthur Favé cooks and Maïté Verriez runs the wine.
Favé tends a 1,000 m² potager a few steps from the dining room and picks from it daily. The menu changes every month around seasonal vegetables and the producers who supply the kitchen. Le Fooding's 2026 listing describes charred leeks with house-made bottarga, Normandy veal with butter beans and a lemongrass jus, and a chestnut and vanilla mont-blanc. Dinner and weekend menus run to four or six courses, while weekday lunch is a three-course formula.
The restaurant is named after the grape of the Savennières appellation, and the cellar follows suit. Verriez pours organic, biodynamic and natural bottles, with local growers well represented. The list runs to several hundred references and changes with the seasons. House-cured charcuterie sits alongside it.
Downstairs, long shared tables fill the dining room, and a small side room seats ten. Upstairs, a carved tufa stone fireplace gives a quieter setting. In warm weather the terrace on the cobbled square takes over, for an aperitif in the sun or lunch under parasols. Next door, Le Clos serves tapas and grilled meats as a summer bar.
