The story
Grand Café Occitan is a bistro at 7 rue de l'Occitanie, Félines-Minervois, in Rieux-Minervois, France. The Michelin Guide listed it as Recommended in 2026, and the kitchen cooks seasonal, locally sourced produce over wood embers.
Tristram Bowden leads the kitchen. He trained in London under Fergus Henderson at St. John and later ran the kitchen at Bread & Wine in Spitalfields Market. He returned to his French roots in the Minervois, where he pairs mountain produce with Mediterranean seafood and keeps a small nod to England in his signature dishes. Ana Dias runs the dining room, drawing on years in London gastropubs.
The menu changes with what local suppliers deliver. Recent examples include brandade de morue with marinated tomatoes, grilled quail with Romesco sauce, and Mediterranean cuttlefish cooked on the plancha with pink garlic and garden parsley. Guests have singled out the soft-boiled egg with anchovy mayonnaise and the buttermilk dessert with raspberries.
A large terrace under plane trees and reed screens sets the mood for lunch and evening meals. Weekday lunch is a set menu at €25 to €29, and weekend lunch is €40. Evening à la carte mains run €19 to €30. The wine list centers on organic and biodynamic bottles from Château MARIS, and Le Fooding also listed the wine bistro in 2026.
