The story
D'une Île sits at Domaine de l'Aunay, lieu-dit l'Aunay, in Rémalard, France, where the country cooking table has held a Le Fooding Best country house award since 2019. The restaurant works within a converted hamlet on an estate of 8 hectares, so the meal and the grounds are closely tied.
Dinner is served from 7 to 9:30pm by reservation, on a three-step set menu at 42 euros. The menu changes daily and is built largely around plants. Fruit, vegetables and herbs come from artisan farmers, local markets and the estate garden, and some are wild-picked. Meat, cheese and cream come from nearby farms. Guests staying on the estate can also order from an all-day snack bar menu.
The property is a seventeenth-century hamlet of five separate buildings, with 10 rooms sleeping 24 guests. Meadows and forest surround it, with an orchard, a vegetable garden and working beehives. In summer there is a swimming pool, and an outdoor sauna looks out over a forest of maples. The estate lies in the Perche regional natural park, about 150 km from Paris. Michelin has recommended the restaurant for 2026.
The wine list draws on producers who make natural, organic and often biodynamic wines, chosen with respect for the soil and the vines. Guests can also bring their own bottle.
