The story
Café Les Deux Gares is a French neo-bistro at 1 Rue des Deux Gares in Paris, set above Gare de l'Est. Le Fooding named it Best Bistro in 2021.
Frédéric Lesire runs the house, and Jonathan Schweizer cooks. He trained at the Institut Paul Bocuse and passed through Sauvage. The French cooking is simple and exacting, and the wine list leans natural.
At lunch, Le Fooding's reviewers found mussels from Groix glazed in garlicky oil with lovage. They also had crispy chicken thigh on pointed cabbage in a crab bisque, and a crème brûlée scattered with crushed Piedmont hazelnuts. Evenings run à la carte, with dishes such as roasted eggplant with smoked herring and lemon verbena butter, or veal sweetbreads with cauliflower, honey and tuna bottarga.
Luke Edward Hall designed the interior, which has an ornate bar, blond wooden tables and Thonet chairs. You can eat at the counter or at a table. Downstairs, the sister café Les Deux Gares Express serves a croque-monsieur with smoked butter and has a sunny terrace. Le Fooding listed both addresses in 2026.
