The story
La Mère Germaine sits at 3 rue du Commandant-Lemaître in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France, where the gastronomic restaurant's modern cuisine earned one Michelin star in 2026. The house opened as a restaurant and hotel in 1922 and still operates under the same name, with a bistro and private houses nearby.
Chef Julien Thomasson writes a creative menu drawn from Provence, the Rhône Valley and the Mediterranean. The house describes its approach as respect for the product. The menu is built on local terroir rather than a fixed formula.
Le Comptoir is the more relaxed side of the house, centred on an open kitchen and a large rotisserie. Guests can eat on the terrace or in the warm dining room, where the vines of the appellation fill the view. Chef Emilio Arriaga signs the bistro menu, which is paired with a selection of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and other French wines.
