The story
Enfin is a modern cuisine restaurant at 2 chemin du Château-d'Andlau in Barr, France, and it earned one Michelin star in 2026. The kitchen works from a former carpentry workshop near the first foothills of the Vosges, where the set menus change with the seasons of Alsace.
Vegetables lead every plate at Enfin, and animal products appear mainly as the centrepiece of the menu. Chef Lucas Engel, formerly of Auberge Frankenbourg, cooks with produce from growers across Alsace and France. The team also preserves part of the harvest through fermentation, brines, drying and house-made vinegars.
Le Fooding recorded a four-course evening that opened with a tzatziki of cucumber, watermelon and Wingen trout, served with garlic and herb pita. Later courses included slow-braised pork belly with a blackberry and beetroot jus, followed by a dessert cart with crème brûlée, fromage blanc cake and a cream-filled choux. The weekend eight-course menu adds fine cuts of meat or whole fish, such as Arctic char or Salers steak.
The room keeps its raw character with felt grey walls and flooring, leather placemats and a long tiled bar. Guests can see the kitchen from the dining room. Wine pairings run five courses, with a non-alcoholic option, and the bottles lean toward natural wines alongside more classic choices.
