The story
Le Garde Champêtre serves bistro and modern cuisine at 50 route des Riceys in Gyé-sur-Seine, part of the Bar-sur-Seine area in France. The Michelin Guide lists it as Recommended for 2026.
The restaurant draws on an organic farm of one hectare. Meals are cooked to order, "à la minute", with the freshest ingredients, and the main source of heat is an open fire. The menu follows what the garden produces, what arrives that day, and the chef's inclinations.
The name honours M. Droze, the last rural constable of Gyé-sur-Seine, who rode his bicycle through the village with a megaphone to share the news. The restaurant aims for the same sense of community, and its playground, boules and badminton court are open to residents, not only to diners. Lunch on Monday, Thursday and Friday offers a choice menu at 35 euros, and Saturday lunch is a single set menu at 55 euros. The 80 euro menu appears from Thursday to Sunday and changes with the garden. Prices may shift on public holidays. Le Fooding also recognised the kitchen with its 2019 Fooding d'amour award.
