The story
Barr is a modern cuisine restaurant and bar at Strandgade 93 in Copenhagen, rated Masters level by the White Guide in 2026. The kitchen cooks from the cultures around the North Sea.
The name comes from the Old Norse word for barley, a grain that shaped food and drink across Northern Europe. Barr works from a historic warehouse on the waterfront. The drinks list follows the same map, with producers from around the North Sea, plus aquavits, regional beers and ciders alongside the wines.
Smørrebrød is ordered by the piece. Options include mustard herring with egg, dill and dry salted bacon, and plaice in crispy breadcrumbs with Barr remoulade. The "Wiener Art" schnitzel is made with free-range pork and a butter sauce with anchovies, and comes with peas, beans and soft horseradish cream. Raspberry sorbet with old-fashioned vanilla cream and wild chamomile closes the set menu.
Evening service offers a four-course menu for the whole table, or à la carte. Cured red fish with tomato, roses and hip berries sits next to a grilled waffle topped with bleak roe, herbs and crème fraîche. The beef rib is barbecued and served with carrots and coriander capers. A beverage pairing adds four matching pours.
The White Guide notes that these premises once housed Noma. Its inspectors describe wood and leather, an open kitchen and friendly staff who see to water and a glass of sparkling wine while you decide. Barr also holds a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026.
