The story
Domestic serves modern cuisine at Mejlgade 35B in Aarhus, Denmark, and earned one Michelin star in 2026 for its high-quality cooking. The kitchen works with small suppliers from the surrounding region, so the menu changes with the seasons. Lunch and dinner menus both follow that approach.
The restaurant says all of its produce comes from small growers in the region. Spring brings ramson back to the menu, with asparagus and rhubarb expected next. Lemon, vanilla, chocolate and pepper do not appear on the menu. In spring the kitchen also starts pickling and fermenting vegetables and herbs to use later in the year. Guests with allergies or dietary needs can be accommodated if they say so when booking.
Candles sit on the tables, and pickling jars line the walls of a room that feels low-key and homely. The team is attentive without being formal. The wine list is chosen by the sommelier team, with a focus on small producers, and a fully Danish list is available. Rare bottles from the Winest cellar can be pre-ordered by email at least three days before the visit.
