The story

HimmerRiget in Aars: Modern Fine Dining at HimmerLand Resort

HimmerRiget is the fine-dining restaurant of the HimmerLand golf and spa resort on Lars Larsens Vej in Aars, rated Masters level by the White Guide in 2026. Its modern cuisine gives food-minded travellers a reason to make the drive out.

The kitchen

Head chef Mads Kongsgaard describes the approach as making room for creativity and daring to be bold, while protecting quality. The restaurant puts the meal itself at the centre. The Michelin Guide lists HimmerRiget as Recommended for 2026. Guests can book a table for one evening or fold dinner into a resort stay, such as the Gastro & Spa Getaway.

Setting

The dining room sits at the end of hole 18. You do not need a golf cart or a green fee to eat here, and the food is the draw for those who care little for the course.

Wine and drinks

The Signature menu is matched by the sommelier, glass by glass, and poured in Riedel Veritas stemware. Prestige works the other way around: the wine leads, with rare bottles that seldom appear by the glass. For a non-alcoholic option, Sommelierens Essens offers house-made juices and kombucha. The wine list is also open to guests who prefer to choose for themselves.

White Guide — Masters level

First immediate thought, as we turn down Lars Larsen’s road in the remote village of Gatten, is that only people who normally enjoy hitting small white balls with clubs and irons could possibly find it reasonable to venture this far out. But let’s say right away—golf cart and green fee are by no means a prerequisite for visiting the Dyne Larsen dynasty’s scenic and internationally recognized golf and spa resort Himmerland. For planted at the end of hole 18 is the associated gourmet restaurant HimmerRiget, which with its elevated culinary sense can cleverly justify the trip for those of us who are far more food‑ than golf‑interested.
