The story
Boban, at Gajeva 9 in Zagreb, has run an Italian-focused Mediterranean kitchen since 1995. It carries a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026.
Pasta, bread and desserts are all made by hand. Gault&Millau, which scored the restaurant 12.5 in 2026, singled out the black gnocchi with salmon, prawns and cherry tomatoes. It also praised the paccheri in deer sauce with plum jam, where game meets a sweet and sour note. Starters include bresaola, San Daniele prosciutto and a selection of Italian cheeses with apricot, fig and orange jams. For mains there is the steak Rustica, and lamb chops roasted pink with gratin potatoes.
The dessert list runs from chocolate mousse cake with raspberry semifreddo to a crumble with homemade apples. Another option is chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream and almond crumble. The wine list and the Prosecco selection are solid, and portions are generous.
Indoors it is lively and a little noisy. The two terraces sit in the pedestrian zone just off Ban Jelačić Square. A private room is set up for celebrations and business dinners, with a projector, screen and microphone. Boban Bistro serves coffee from 10:00, a blend of arabica and robusta roasted in Italy for the restaurant.
