The story
Shang Palace, in the Shangri-La Hotel at 472 Wenchang West Road, Yangzhou, is a Chinese restaurant serving Huaiyang and Cantonese cooking, and it holds one Michelin star (2026).
Executive Chinese chef Zhu Yifei, a native of Changzhou, leads the kitchen. He trained under Zhou Xiaoyan, a master recognized as an intangible cultural heritage inheritor of Huaiyang cuisine. The menu brings Huaiyang technique together with Cantonese cooking, with attention to color, shape and plating.
The restaurant's own materials highlight three dishes. The crispy beef has a crisp exterior and a juicy center. The braised lion's head is described as light and tender, rich without being greasy. Yangzhou fried rice, the local classic, is the dish most closely tied to the city.
The dining rooms use traditional Chinese design in an elegant, understated setting. Eighteen private rooms suit smaller gatherings. Smoking is not permitted in the restaurant.
