The story
The Acorn, at 3995 Main Street in Vancouver, is a vegetable-forward locavore restaurant and bar serving brunch and dinner. It earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026.
Head chef Matt Gostelow returned to the kitchen in 2019 and cooks by the calendar. Spring brings asparagus and rhubarb, summer tomatoes, autumn wild chanterelles, and winter root vegetables. The restaurant says 99% of what reaches the plate was grown, harvested or made in British Columbia or Western Canada. Stems, skins and pits are used in the menu, part of a zero-waste approach that the Smart Green Guide recognized with four radishes in 2026.
Weekend brunch features seasonal menus, good coffee, signature cocktails and sparkling wine. Dinner centres on a family-style chef's tasting menu, with an optional wine pairing, or à la carte at the bar. Savoury dishes contain onion and garlic that cannot be left out, so guests with dietary needs should mention them when booking.
