The story
D.O.M is a Brazilian restaurant at R. Barão de Capanema, 549 in São Paulo, led by chef Alex Atala and holding two Michelin stars (2026). The kitchen works in contemporary Brazilian cuisine, drawing its ingredients from across the country.
Atala opened D.O.M in 1999 to build a bold cuisine around Brazil's socio-biodiversity. The kitchen cooks with native ingredients such as jambu, tucupi, açaí, priprioca and bacuri, many of which were little known outside their home regions. The restaurant later joined The World's 50 Best Restaurants list in 2006 and stayed on it for twelve consecutive years.
The menu runs to ten courses, from amuse-bouche through cold and hot appetizers, main courses, desserts and petit fours. It is rebuilt every year from research into ingredients and folklore, and the Amazonian ant has become a regular presence on it. Weekday lunch offers a Brazilian rice and beans meal, a dish the house has served since its first day. Wine pairing with nine labels is available alongside the tasting menu.
The upper floor has a private space for small groups, with a main shared table for up to 14 guests and a side table for six, 20 seats in total. The room suits both social and corporate dinners. The dining areas are described as discreet and modern, with wood, soft lighting and tables spaced for privacy.
