The story
De Moestuin is a farm-to-table restaurant at Laarhofstraat 61 in Schelle, Belgium, rated 13 by Gault&Millau in 2026. It has served guests since 2023 from a converted barn on a heritage farm.
Andreas Van den Wyngaert, a gardener and beekeeper by training, farms 2.5 hectares around the restaurant with a team of volunteers and family. They grow vegetables, fruit, herbs and edible flowers organically, around 160 varieties in all. What he harvests decides what reaches the plate that evening. The We're Smart Green Guide gave the restaurant 3 Radishes in 2026.
Lodewijk cooks the vegetable-led food in its simplest form, built on whatever the field offers that day. He trained at Colomaplus and Talent for Gastronomy, did stages at De Karmeliet and Het Gebaar, and worked in the kitchens of Cent-pour-cent and De Pastorale.
The menu changes every six weeks, with two versions. Oogst is fully vegetarian, while Vangst adds fish and meat. A recent Oogst card paired spinach with gooseberry and celery, and cauliflower with parsley. Vangst brought in langoustine alongside strawberry and fennel. Both run from two to six courses.
The dining room occupies the farm's former barn, with oak beams and old brick walls that feel raw and warm. Lunch is served Wednesday to Saturday and dinner Tuesday to Saturday, in a small, family-run setting.
