The story
Tabernakel is a French and International restaurant in Mechelen, located at Dorp 41, Bonheiden, 2820, Belgium, and it holds a 2026 Michelin Recommended distinction. The French kitchen here runs on an evening tasting format with lunch and à la carte options alongside it.
Steven and Bart Mispelters run the kitchen. They work with regional products whose origin they know, and they apply older techniques such as fermentation in a newer, controlled way. Textures and flavours alternate across the plate.
The Angelus and Eden menus run four, five or six courses, each built around seasonal ingredients.
The dining room sits behind large windows in the centre of the village, and it stays calm despite the traffic outside. Kim VanderAerschot hosts the guests and chooses the drinks that accompany each course. Gault&Millau awarded the restaurant 13 points in 2026.
