The story
Bistrôt Le Ciel, at Paalsteenlaan 90 in Lanaken, Belgium, serves classic French dishes within the La Butte aux Bois estate, and Gault&Millau gave it 12 points for 2026. The bistrot sits inside a five-star hotel complex built around a historic estate from 1924, on the edge of Hoge Kempen National Park.
Chef Pieter Beurskens describes the cooking as a Franco-Belgian kitchen with global influences, turned into dishes that are accessible and surprising. Gault&Millau notes a broad menu that keeps the classics on the card. Michelin also lists the bistrot as Recommended for 2026.
The room is transparent, with a subtropical tree at its centre. Decorative objects line the space: ammolites, gogottes, crystals, minerals, petrified wood and gemstones. Gault&Millau praised the interior for its setting inside the hotel's elegant complex, and the natural materials give the room its character.
