The story
Het Nieuwe Palinghuis is a seafood restaurant at Sint-Jansvliet 14 in Antwerpen, listed as Recommended by the Michelin Guide in 2026. It has been cooking fresh fish since 1983.
Chef Erik Haentjens runs the kitchen with his partner Gonda Vanhulle, and the menu follows the market and the season. Eel is the namesake: smoked, or served "in 't groen" with wild eel rather than farmed. Other plates include house-made shrimp croquettes, lobster soup, sole with mustard sauce and wild turbot on the bone. Gault&Millau gave the kitchen 13.5 in 2026.
The dining room is rustic, with nods to Antwerp's harbour past, and it sits in one of the city's oldest hospitality buildings. The wine list leans toward New World bottles. Booking ahead is advised.
