The story
Black Smoke, at Boomgaardstraat 1 in Antwerpen, is a BBQ restaurant that Gault&Millau scored 12.5 in 2026, calling it the mother of all barbecue restaurants in Belgium. The venue is run by horeca entrepreneur Kasper Stuart and combines a barbecue restaurant, a bar and a rooftop under one roof.
The pitmasters cook in two ways. Low and slow dishes go on wood-fired smokers, following American BBQ traditions. Quicker grill plates come off an Argentinian parrilla. Local influences run through the menu, so the American style carries a Belgian accent.
The Black Smoke Bar mixes award-winning cocktails and pours beers drawn straight from the cellars. Upstairs, a rooftop on the sixth floor looks out over Antwerp. The venue also offers outdoor seating and a riverside terrace, and private parties can be booked.
