The story
Das Markthof, at Kellergasse 1 in Siegersdorf near Tulln, is a classic cuisine restaurant built around a working farm, and Gault&Millau gave it 14.5 points in 2026. The menu leans on what the farm raises and grows, with Angus beef and pork from its own pastures and vegetables from its garden.
Fabian Schasching and Max Eichberger run the kitchen. Both trained at Steirereck, and Schasching also worked with Thomas Dorfer at Landhaus Bacher. The restaurant describes their approach as "from nose to tail," using the whole animal and seasonal produce from the estate and selected local producers.
Gault&Millau's tasting notes describe a wild garlic soup with a one-hour egg, pink-cooked Angus beef with grilled vegetables, crispy potatoes and chimichurri, and a straw-fed pork schnitzel with green salad. Dessert is fluffy Buchteln with vanilla sauce and plum sorbet.
The dining room occupies a former hunting lodge, the Jagdstüberl, in the middle of the farm. Goats, pigs and horses graze near the parking area, so guests pass the animals before they sit down.
Before the meal, guests can start with an aperitif, such as a glass of Crémant. The wine list is large and varied, and the restaurant also sells its farm products, including sausages, pâté, smoked bacon and pasta, from a shop on site.
