The story
Forthuber, at Gstaig 1 in Feldkirchen bei Mattighofen, is an Austrian kitchen that Gault&Millau scored 16.5 points for 2026. The Michelin Guide lists it as Recommended in the same year.
Christoph Forthuber builds his menu on Austrian classics and refines them with finer technique. His earlier kitchens include Esszimmer and Restaurant Weyringer near Salzburg, Mochi in Vienna and Taubenkobel in Schützen. He also worked at Tantris in Munich and Schloss Schauenstein in Switzerland. Julia Kugelstätter is the sous chef.
Gault&Millau praised a cauliflower dish with tangy purslane and a quail breast on fruity apple and celery, with a soft egg set in mushroom cream. The salmon trout comes from the herb sauna. The dessert list drew particular attention, with nut butter ice cream paired with white chocolate and sea buckthorn, and spruce tips served with salted caramel.
Doris Forthuber runs the dining room, the wine service and the guest rooms next door. Gault&Millau notes a dinner-and-stay package and an outstanding wine list. In summer, a small garden room is open for guests.
