The story
Attica is a modern Australian restaurant at 74 Glen Eira Road in Ripponlea, Melbourne, and ranked No. 20 on The World's 50 Best Restaurants in 2018. The menu follows the seasons and draws on ingredients found across Australia, including the traditions of its First Peoples.
Chef Ben Shewry leads the kitchen, and the tasting menu changes with the seasons. Caviar and lobster are absent by design. Instead, the cooking works with native ingredients, and the team sources only from producers whose ethics match its own. The rack of ribs is made from crocodile, not beef.
Guests can choose an alcoholic pairing, a non-alcoholic pairing, or a mix of both, all selected by the sommelier. The wine and cocktail list leans on Victorian producers, including Maidenii vermouth from Bendigo and Four Pillars gin from the Yarra Valley. Non-alcoholic options include house-made teas, juices and shrubs.
The charcoal room seats eight to twelve guests at one large table, with a sheer curtain for privacy. The cellar section holds thirteen to eighteen across two long tables. For a full buyout, the restaurant can host up to 60 people for a seated lunch or dinner with a bespoke menu.
