The story
Winteringham Fields sits at 1 Silver Street, Winteringham, DN15 9ND, in Winterton, where the kitchen serves modern British cooking. The restaurant earned a Michelin star in 2026, and it calls itself Lincolnshire's only Michelin Star restaurant.
Chef patron Colin McGurran leads a kitchen that rewrites the menu each season. The restaurant sources fish from the nearby coast, meat from local farms, and vegetables and herbs from its own kitchen garden. A fig and pear salad picked every morning from the polytunnel sits alongside the foie gras torchon, a summer dish served with spiced chutney. The AA has awarded the restaurant four Rosettes for culinary excellence in 2026.
This signature starter began with an early October walk through misty woodland, and the dish recreates that scene on the plate. Roasted quail breast comes with tempura of its own egg, confit of its leg, and a parfait of liver and foie gras. Moss, wild flowers and dehydrated black olives stand in for the forest floor, bark stock supplies the smell, and liquid nitrogen creates the mist. Colin first cooked it on Great British Menu in 2012.
The kitchen sits inside the dining room, with sliding stable doors in place of brick walls. Guests can watch the chefs work and catch the aromas as courses leave the pass. Summer desserts have included a strawberry and cream pre-dessert with Swiss meringue and white balsamic vinegar, and a honey ice cream sandwich made with honey from the restaurant's own bees.
