The story
The Bulls Head is a modern British restaurant with rooms on New Road, Holymoorside (S42 7EW), in Walton. It holds 3 AA Rosettes for 2026, recognition of the kitchen's culinary standard.
Patron chef Mark Aisthorpe opened the restaurant in 2016 after years in high-end hotels, several of them holding one or two Michelin stars. He reached the regional final of BBC's Great British Menu in 2022. His menus change daily, built around what local foragers and neighbouring farmers can supply. The Michelin Guide also lists the restaurant as recommended for 2026.
The tasting menu runs Thursday to Saturday, at lunch between 12 and 1pm and at dinner between 5 and 8pm. The whole table must choose it, and three hours is the suggested allowance. Lunchtimes and Wednesday or Thursday evenings are pre-booking only. Head pastry chef Joel Stubbs, who previously worked in Italian restaurants in Sheffield, works beside Aisthorpe in the kitchen.
General manager Alicia Wright is a sommelier with WSET Level 3 and a member of the British Cheese Academy. She pairs the cooking with wine flights built around the local ingredients on the plate. A separate bar menu is served in the bar area only.
