The story
The Pierhouse is a Scottish seafood restaurant in Oban, based at The Pierhouse Hotel, Port Appin, PA38 4DE. It holds 2 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence (2026), and the menu is built around seafood landed on the shores of Loch Linnhe.
Chef Michael Leathley describes his cooking as unpretentious, a little classic and a little modern. He lets the produce lead, with clean flavours and playful, comforting twists on familiar dishes. The kitchen works with Argyll producers, including langoustines and mussels from Loch Linnhe and Loch Etive and oysters from the beds of Loch Creran, about ten minutes away. Where possible, ingredients come from within 50 miles of the hotel.
The seafood kitchen draws on that catch, and the room looks across the water to the pier where the Lismore ferry runs. A Condé Nast Traveller reviewer singled out the menu of shellfish wizardry as the highlight of a visit. The restaurant is the sister kitchen of The Three Chimneys on Skye, and it shares that house focus on local sourcing.
