The story
The Bull stands on Sheep Street, Charlbury, Oxfordshire (OX7 3RR), and cooks Modern British food over an open fire. It holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2026, which the guide describes as good quality, good value cooking.
The restaurant is built around open fire cooking, and the menu shifts with daily conversations between the kitchen and its farmers and growers. Most vegetables come from the Market Garden at Bruern Farms, managed by head grower Thomas. The sample menu lists oysters, raw beef with egg yolk, The Bull Pie and rib of beef with horseradish. Puddings include chocolate mousse and apricot frangipane tart.
The Good Food Guide rates the pub Good for 2026 and points to the low raftered ceilings, open fires and pillar candles across the flagstoned bar and dining rooms. Cask ales and speciality ciders share the list with wines from France, Italy, Spain and England. A weekly set of single bottles sits alongside it. Cocktails run from a Negroni to an Old Fashioned.
Upstairs, the rooms have freestanding baths and super king sized beds. The pub has stood on this corner since the early 1500s. It is an 8 minute walk from Charlbury station, a short train ride from London Paddington.
