The story
Hansom is a modern cuisine restaurant at 7-9 North End, Bedale, North Yorkshire, and it holds two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence (2026). The kitchen is led by award-winning chef Ruth Hansom, and the restaurant's focus is seasonal tasting menus built around local produce.
Ruth Hansom describes the cooking as contemporary dining that draws on the best of land, earth and sea. The kitchen works with small local suppliers and changes quickly as the seasons turn. Alternative cuts of meat are used so that whole animals are cooked. Michelin lists Hansom as Recommended for 2026.
Tasting menus are available at all times, including a vegetarian version. A shorter lunch menu runs on Friday and Saturday. The wine and drinks lists are curated with the same care as the food, and the restaurant also operates as a wine bar. Once a month, on the last Sunday, a sharing Sunday Lunch Feast is served from 12 to 2:30pm, using produce from Bedale and the surrounding villages. Most dietary requirements can be accommodated if the restaurant is told before the visit.
